Italy -> Court Recognizes For First Time Same-Sex Overseas Adoption of Child Without Biological Connection

According to this article, the Tribunal for Minors Court in Florence recognized for the first time the adoption of a non-biological child by same-sex parents who finalized their adoptions in countries (Britain and United States) recognizing same-sex adoptions.  Prior to this court decision, same-sex couples in Italy could only be recognized as parents of an adopted child if at least one of the parents had a biological connection and even then it was not an absolute certainty.     As of now, Italian citizens seeking recognition of their overseas same-sex adoption must petition the Court in Italy and a decision whether or not to recognize the overseas same-sex adoption will be made on a case-by-case basis.
